Bespoke Joinery and Kitchens for Monaco and French Riviera Renovations: Importing from Turkey to Monte-Carlo, Cap Ferrat, Cannes and Saint-Tropez

Renovations in Monaco and on the French Riviera, from apartments in the Carré d'Or, Larvotto and Fontvieille to Belle Époque villas in Cap Ferrat, Cap d'Antibes, Cannes, Èze, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and Saint-Tropez, are built around bespoke joinery: lacquered kitchens, dressing rooms, panelling, libraries, wine rooms, vanity units and interior doors made to the interior designer's drawings. This guide explains how an interior designer, architect, main contractor or homeowner in Monaco or on the Riviera imports that joinery from Turkey: what we manufacture, the customs union and VAT, the new REACH formaldehyde limit, road delivery, lead times and the order process.

Why Monaco and the Riviera source bespoke joinery from Turkey

The Principality renovates more than it builds: land is scarce, existing buildings are transformed apartment by apartment, and along the coast older villas change hands and then change interiors. The European Commission estimates that 85 percent of the EU's buildings were built before 2001 and that 85 to 95 percent will still be standing in 2050; the Renovation Wave aims to double the renovation rate by 2030 (COM(2020) 662). A systematic review in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews shows that refurbishing an existing building has a lower life-cycle carbon footprint than demolition and new construction in the great majority of cases studied (Schwartz, Raslan and Mumovic, 2018). The local constraint is capacity: regional workshops quote long lead times and high prices for premium lacquer and veneer work.

Turkey is the practical alternative: industrial-scale production, European hardware, zero duty under the customs union, and four to seven days by truck from Istanbul to Monaco.

In one sentence: RVK Mobilya Dekorasyon (Istanbul) manufactures bespoke kitchens, fitted furniture, panelling, dressing rooms, vanity units and interior doors from your drawings in millimetres, delivers by truck to Monaco and the Côte d'Azur with an A.TR certificate, and builds on panels that meet the REACH 2026 formaldehyde limit.

What we manufacture for Riviera projects

  • Kitchens: lacquered MDF in matte, satin or high gloss, or natural veneer; flat, framed or moulded fronts to your drawings; Blum or Hettich hardware; integration of European appliances (90 to 120 cm range cookers, panel-ready refrigerators, 60 cm dishwashers); islands with marble or porcelain tops.
  • Fitted furniture and panelling: libraries, media walls, wine rooms, headboard walls and fully panelled bedrooms, panelled hallways, studies.
  • Dressing rooms and wardrobes: lacquered, veneered or laminate; delivered assembled or flat-pack with hardware and assembly guides.
  • Vanity units and interior doors with frames and architraves, lacquered or veneered; period profiles reproduced from your survey drawings.
  • Stone and metal: Turkish marble and porcelain slabs in the same shipment; brass or bronze details on request.

Finishes: any RAL or NCS colour; patina lacquers; oak, walnut, ash and other veneers under lacquer or oil. For rooms exposed to sea air and for bathrooms we use moisture-resistant MDF and sealed edges. We manufacture from the drawings and specification supplied by your interior designer. Installation is carried out by your local fitting team.

Customs union, duty and VAT

  • Zero duty: wooden furniture and doors fall under the EU-Türkiye customs union; accompanied by the A.TR movement certificate they enter the Union without customs duty (Decision No 1/95 of the EC-Turkey Association Council).
  • Monaco: the Principality has formed a customs union with France since the convention of 18 May 1963; French customs regulations apply directly and VAT is levied on the same basis and at the same rate as in France, 20 percent (Prince's Government). Clearance is carried out by French customs; our documents name Monaco as the destination.
  • Import VAT: 20 percent on the customs value plus transport; a VAT-registered importer declares it on its own return (reverse charge); a private client pays it at clearance.
  • Delivery terms: DAP to site (cleared by your customs agent) as standard; DDP on request through our forwarder; EXW Istanbul if you prefer to arrange transport.

Worked example: a kitchen with an EXW Istanbul value of 30,000 euros: duty 0 with A.TR; road transport from Istanbul to Monaco quoted per project; VAT at 20 percent on the delivered value, reclaimed by a VAT-registered importer. Every RVK quotation shows the EXW and delivered-to-site figures side by side.

EU compliance and documents

  1. Formaldehyde, REACH 2026: since 6 August 2026, furniture and wood-based articles placed on the EU market may not exceed 0.062 mg/m³ of formaldehyde in the test chamber (Regulation (EU) 2023/1464, entry 77 of REACH Annex XVII). We build on E05 and CARB2/TSCA panels and attach the panel data sheets to the delivery (EUR-Lex). Why it matters: the peer-reviewed review by Salthammer, Mentese and Marutzky in Chemical Reviews shows that composite wood panels are the dominant indoor formaldehyde source and that emissions are set at the panel stage (2010).
  2. Protected buildings: for a villa listed or registered as a historic monument in France, interior works may need the opinion of the Architecte des Bâtiments de France; we manufacture to the approved profiles and details.
  3. Documents with every shipment: commercial invoice, packing list, A.TR certificate, CMR, ISPM 15 heat-treated crates and pallets.

Delivery from Istanbul to Monaco and the Côte d'Azur

  • Road: full truck or groupage, Istanbul to Monaco, Nice, Cannes or Saint-Tropez typically 4 to 7 days door to door.
  • Access: Monaco apartment buildings are delivered through service lifts in slots agreed with the building manager; villas on the Cap and in the hills by narrow roads. We split long runs and tall units to the dimensions your fitters specify and plan delivery windows, including outside the Grand Prix period in May and the summer peak.
  • Packing: assembled carcasses and fronts in ISPM 15 crates with foam and corner protection; flat-pack items on stretch-wrapped pallets; every crate labelled by room and item number.
