Where Furniture Is Made in Turkey: İnegöl, Kayseri, Ankara Siteler, İstanbul and the Door and Panel Clusters — a Buyer's Map
Share
Turkey exported about USD 4.7 billion of furniture in 2025 according to the manufacturers' association MOSDER, ranks seventh among the world's furniture exporters and ships to around 150 countries, with Iraq, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Libya and France at the top of the list. Search "furniture manufacturer Turkey" and you mostly find sourcing agents and paid directories. This page is different: it is a map of where furniture is actually made in Turkey, what each region does well, when the two fairs take place and how to check a factory before you pay a deposit. It is written by a manufacturer that produces through partner factories in several of these clusters and manages drawings, quality control and export from Istanbul.
The clusters at a glance
| Region | Known for | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| İstanbul | Design offices, showrooms and furniture malls (MASKO in İkitelli, MODOKO in Ümraniye), contract and hotel projects, the international fair, export logistics through Ambarlı port and Ro-Ro lines to Europe; production in the western industrial zones | Project coordination, prototypes and mock-up rooms, mixed hotel packages, consolidation and export |
| Bursa – İnegöl | Turkey's best-known furniture town: a dense cluster of small and medium factories producing wooden and upholstered furniture, kitchens, wardrobes and panel furniture, with its own fair (MODEF) | Custom kitchens and wardrobes, panel furniture in volume |
| Kayseri | Home of the large industrial groups: sofas, sofa beds, beds and modular bedroom ranges; the Ministry of Trade counts seven of the country's 22 largest manufacturers here; also a steel-door cluster | Standardised ranges, large volumes, hotel room sets at scale |
| Ankara – Siteler | One of the largest furniture districts in the country with more than 10,000 registered small and medium enterprises; classical and handmade furniture, carving, millwork and one-off bespoke work | Bespoke millwork, classical and palace-style interiors, restoration |
| Kastamonu – Tosya | A concentration of wooden door factories: interior door sets, laminate and lacquered doors, fire-rated door production | Interior door sets in volume |
| Düzce – Bolu | Wood products and panel processing; bathroom furniture producers | Bathroom vanities, small case goods |
| İzmir (Karabağlar, Kısıkköy) and Adana | Regional clusters serving the Aegean and the south | Regional supply |
| Panel industry (nationwide) | Large MDF, particleboard and melamine producers such as Kastamonu Entegre, Yıldız Entegre, AGT and Çamsan supply every cluster, which is why low-emission and TSCA-certified panels are available domestically | Material specification for any project |
The pattern has been stable for decades. Öz (2004) analyses the Ankara furniture cluster as one of Turkey's competitive industrial clusters, and Bayraktaroğlu and Soylu (2024) study İnegöl as a cluster in its own right, surveying 40 of its companies. The Ministry of Trade's sector report names İstanbul and Ankara as the two leading production districts and İnegöl as the third, with Kayseri standing out for large-scale upholstered production.
Why the cluster decides price, lead time and quality
A factory is good at what its neighbours are good at. A Kayseri sofa plant quoting a lacquered kitchen will subcontract it; an İnegöl kitchen factory asked for carved classical consoles will send the job to Ankara. When a buyer sends one enquiry to "a Turkish manufacturer" and receives a price for everything, the price usually hides a chain of subcontractors that nobody manages. Three practical consequences:
- Lead time: a product made in its own cluster is scheduled into a line that runs daily; a product made outside its cluster waits for a gap.
- Price: clusters share raw-material buying, cutting services and hardware distributors, so the same cabinet costs less in İnegöl than in a one-off workshop.
- Quality: edge-banding, lacquer booths and door presses are specialised equipment; the cluster that owns it produces the better surface.
This is how we work at RVK Mobilya Dekorasyon: custom kitchen cabinets and wardrobes are produced in the İnegöl region, lacquered wooden interior doors come from the Kastamonu door factories, bathroom vanities from the Düzce region, and classical millwork from Ankara. Drawings, panel specification, quality control and loading are managed from Istanbul, and a mixed order for a hotel or an apartment project ships as one consolidated container, EXW Istanbul. Our bespoke furniture projects for hotels, villas and apartments are built on this model.
The fairs: January 2027 in İstanbul, October 2026 in İnegöl
- International Istanbul Furniture Fair (IIFF) 2027: 19–23 January 2027, Tüyap Fair and Congress Center and İstanbul Fuar Merkezi, organised by Tüyap and MOS Fuarcılık. The sector's largest gathering, covering every product group.
- MODEF Expo, İnegöl: 13–17 October 2026, the 55th edition of the İnegöl furniture fair, organised by Modef Fuarcılık.
Fairs show ranges, finishes and who is serious enough to exhibit. Custom projects are decided afterwards, on drawings, a sample and a visit to the production line, not at the stand.
How to verify a Turkish factory before paying a deposit
- Trade registry. Search the company name on the Turkish Trade Registry Gazette (ticaretsicil.gov.tr, free registration): registered name, registry office, capital, partners and date of incorporation. A "factory" that does not appear is a trading name, not a company.
- Tax number and MERSİS number. Both appear on every Turkish invoice; ask for them in the first email and check that the proforma carries the same.
- Exporters' association membership. Turkish exporters are registered with one of the exporters' associations under the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM). Ask which association and for a previous export declaration, with the buyer's name masked.
- Factory or showroom? Many "manufacturers" online are showrooms in MASKO or MODOKO. Ask where the panels are cut and ask for a video call from that floor, on a date you choose.
- Sample before series. One cabinet, one door or one mock-up room, paid, delivered to you, judged against the drawing. It costs little and it settles finish, hardware and packaging questions before the deposit.
- References in your market. A manufacturer that has shipped to your country can show customs documents and photos; ask for both. Our ten-point checklist for choosing a furniture manufacturer in Turkey goes through the documents to ask for.
- Proforma discipline. EXW or another named Incoterm, a packaging specification, the panel class and a payment structure of deposit plus balance before shipment. How the documents and lead times then run is explained in importing furniture from Turkey: documents and lead times.
Where Turkey sits against China
For a European, Gulf or UK project the difference is distance and documents: 4–7 days by truck to Western Europe, A.TR for the EU customs union, an origin declaration for the UK, and the same emission classes and ISPM 15 pallets your market expects. We compared the two in detail in furniture manufacturer in Turkey vs China for luxury projects, and the material rules in formaldehyde classes for custom furniture and export packaging and container loading.
Checklist: matching your order to the right cluster
- Kitchens, wardrobes, panel furniture → İnegöl region.
- Sofas, beds, standard hotel ranges in volume → Kayseri.
- Classical, carved, one-off millwork → Ankara Siteler.
- Interior and fire-rated wooden doors → Kastamonu (Tosya).
- Bathroom vanities → Düzce region.
- Mixed hotel or apartment packages → a coordinator in İstanbul that places each item in its cluster and consolidates one shipment.
- Any order: trade-registry check, tax and MERSİS numbers, exporters' association, video call from the production floor, paid sample.
Planning a kitchen, wardrobe, door or hotel project? Send your drawings and the destination country or write to us on WhatsApp. We quote EXW Istanbul and name the production region for each item in the offer.
Frequently asked questions
Is İnegöl or Kayseri better for kitchens?
İnegöl. Kayseri's strength is upholstered and modular bedroom furniture at industrial scale; kitchens and wardrobes are an İnegöl-region product.
Can one supplier handle a mixed hotel order: casegoods, doors, vanities?
Yes, if that supplier places each product in its cluster and consolidates the shipment, which is the model we use. A single factory quoting all three will subcontract two of them.
Do I need to visit Turkey?
Not for a first order. A video call from the production floor, a paid sample and a trade-registry check answer most questions. A visit pays off before a large hotel project, ideally timed with the January fair.
Which fair should a project buyer attend?
The International Istanbul Furniture Fair in January covers every product group in one place; MODEF in İnegöl in October is the place to see kitchen, wardrobe and panel-furniture producers in their own town.
