Bespoke Joinery and Kitchens for Prime London Renovations: Importing from Turkey to Kensington, Chelsea, Mayfair, Hampstead and Surrey

Prime London renovations, from Georgian and Victorian houses in Kensington, Chelsea, Notting Hill and Hampstead to mansion flats in Mayfair and Belgravia and country houses in Surrey and the Cotswolds, are built around bespoke joinery: in-frame kitchens, libraries, panelled walls, dressing rooms, boot rooms, media and wine rooms in basement extensions, vanity units and interior doors made to the designer's drawings. This guide explains how an interior designer, architect, main contractor or homeowner in London imports that joinery from Turkey: what we manufacture, the UK-Türkiye trade agreement and VAT, DDP delivery to site, UK standards, lead times and the order process.

Why prime London projects source bespoke joinery from Turkey

One fifth of England's housing stock was built before 1919; in prime central London the share is far higher, and these houses are refurbished, not replaced (English Housing Survey). Professor Anne Power of the London School of Economics shows that refurbishing older housing beats demolition on time, cost, carbon and community impact, and that refurbished homes can reach new-build energy standards (Power, 2010, ICE Proceedings). London's constraint is not demand but capacity: local workshops quote long lead times and premium prices for hand-painted in-frame work.

Turkey is the practical alternative: industrial-scale furniture manufacturing, European hardware, a trade agreement that keeps the tariff at zero, and a week by road from Istanbul to London.

In one sentence: RVK Mobilya Dekorasyon (Istanbul) manufactures bespoke kitchens, fitted furniture, wall panelling, dressing rooms, vanity units and interior doors from your drawings in millimetres, delivers DDP to London sites under our own UK VAT registration, and has shipped full containers to the UK, including a complete apartment interior in Bristol.

What we manufacture for London renovations

  • Kitchens: hand-painted (lacquered) MDF or natural veneer; Shaker, in-frame and flat slab fronts to your drawings; Blum or Hettich hardware; integration for UK and European appliances (90 to 120 cm range cookers, panelled fridge-freezers, 60 cm dishwashers); pantry and larder units; islands with stone tops.
  • Fitted furniture and panelling: libraries, media walls, wine rooms, panelled hallways and studies, fireplace surrounds, window seats, boot rooms and utility rooms.
  • Dressing rooms and wardrobes: lacquered, veneered or laminate; delivered assembled or flat-pack with hardware and assembly guides.
  • Vanity units and interior doors with linings and architraves, painted or veneered, to the period profiles in your drawings.
  • Stone: Turkish marble and porcelain slabs for worktops and bathrooms can travel in the same shipment.

Finishes: any RAL, NCS, Farrow & Ball or Little Greene reference in matte, eggshell or gloss; antique and patina lacquers; oak, walnut and other veneers under lacquer or oil. We manufacture from the drawings and specification supplied by your designer or architect. Installation is carried out by your fitting team in the UK.

Trade agreement, duty and VAT

  • Zero duty: under the UK-Türkiye Trade Agreement, in force since 1 January 2021, goods of Turkish origin enter the UK tariff-free. Proof of origin is the declaration on origin we place on the commercial invoice; the old A.TR certificate no longer applies (GOV.UK).
  • Import VAT: 20 percent on the customs value plus freight and insurance, paid at import or through postponed VAT accounting when the importer is VAT-registered (GOV.UK).
  • DDP under our UK VAT registration: RVK is registered for VAT in the UK, so we can act as importer, clear customs, deliver to your site and issue a UK VAT invoice. One price, delivered. EXW Istanbul or FOB terms are available if you prefer your own forwarder.
  • Currency: we invoice in GBP or EUR.

Worked example: a kitchen with an EXW Istanbul value of £30,000: duty £0 with the origin declaration; transport to London quoted per project; import VAT at 20 percent on the landed value, reclaimed in the normal way by a VAT-registered importer. Under DDP you see the delivered price with UK VAT on one line.

UK standards and documents

  1. Board emissions: E1 boards tested to BS EN 717-1 under BS EN 13986; E05 boards on request; board class and supplier are stated on the specification. Why it matters: the peer-reviewed review by Salthammer, Mentese and Marutzky in Chemical Reviews shows that composite wood panels are the dominant indoor formaldehyde source and that emissions are set at the panel stage (2010).
  2. Fire safety: the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 apply to upholstered furniture, not to fitted joinery. Where the door schedule calls for FD30 or FD60 fire doorsets, these must come from a UK third-party certified supplier (BS 476-22 or BS EN 1634-1); we supply the standard interior doors and linings alongside them.
  3. Listed buildings and conservation areas: internal alterations to a listed house need Listed Building Consent; we manufacture to the profiles and details the conservation officer has approved (Historic England).
  4. Documents with every shipment: commercial invoice with origin declaration, packing list, CMR or bill of lading, and ISPM 15 heat-treated crates.

Delivery from Istanbul to London

  • Road: full truck or groupage, Istanbul to London typically 5 to 8 days door to door; the standard route for kitchens and fitted furniture.
  • Sea: 20-foot or 40-foot container to London Gateway or Felixstowe, typically 2 to 3 weeks; for whole-house packages.
  • Packing: assembled carcasses and fronts in ISPM 15 crates with foam and corner protection; flat-pack items on stretch-wrapped pallets; every crate labelled by room and item number.
  • Site access: London terraces with narrow stairs and basement rooms are planned at drawing stage; we split long runs and tall units to the dimensions your fitters specify.
